Course
Description:
This course
teaches the Theory of Operation; Proper Component Removal and
Replacement Procedures; Operating System Installation and
Configuration; Configuration of a RAID Array on a Precision
workstation; and Hardware Troubleshooting for the current line of
Dell Dimension and OptiPlex desktops and Precision workstations.
Prerequisites:
This course is
designed for IS professionals with a computer support background and
who have technical expertise in diagnosing and servicing computer
systems. Participants should have a working knowledge of
computer fundamentals and a computer support background. This
course is not designed for new technicians.
Course Outline and Objectives:
Module 1 -
Theory of Operation: Desktops
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Describe the different types of memory
- Determine the proper memory to install on a Dimension and
OptiPlex desktop system
- Describe basic networking
concepts
Module 2 -
Removal and Replacement Procedures: Dell
OptiPlex
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Use available diagnostic software to identify failed
components
- Remove and replace all field serviceable components
Module 3 -
Operating System Installation and Configuration: Dell
OptiPlex
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Install and configure an operating system
- Install and configure required drivers
Module 4 -
Removal and Replacement Procedures: Dell Dimension
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Use available diagnostic software to identify failed

- Remove and replace all field serviceable components
Module 5 -
Theory of Operation: Dell Precision workstations
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Explain how workstations differ from desktops
- Describe a RAID array
- Describe applicable RAID levels
- Describe the different types of memory
- Determine the proper memory to install on a Dell Precision
workstation
Module 6 -
Removal and Replacement Procedures: Dell Precision
