Course
Description:
This
course teaches the Theory of Operation; Proper
Component Removal and Replacement Procedures; Configuration of a RAID
Array; Operating System Installation and Configuration; and Hardware
Troubleshooting for the current line of Dell PowerEdge
Servers. This
course also covers installation and
Configuration of PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller (PERC) cards;
Installation and Configuration of PowerEdge Racks.
Prerequisites:
This course is
designed for IS professionals with a computer support background and
who have technical expertise in diagnosing and servicing computer
systems. Participants should have a working knowledge of
computer fundamentals and a computer support background. This
course is not designed for new technicians.
Course Outline and Objectives:
Module 1 -
Theory of Operation
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Describe a RAID array
- Describe applicable RAID levels
- Describe how a hard drive configured as a Hot Spare
functions in a RAID array

2: Installation and Setup of Dell Racks
Module
Description: Combines instructor-led discussion and hands-on
laboratory activity to provide training on the safety
considerations, installation, and configuration of current Dell
PowerEdge Racks.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this
module, students will be able to:
- Recognize the severity of applicable safety precautions.
- Display proper safety procedures while installing a Dell
PowerEdge Rack solution.
- Describe a Dell PowerEdge Rack.
- Use the rack Advisor to configure a Dell PowerEdge Rack
solution.
- Use the Rack Site Survey to verify the site is prepared for
installation of the Dell PowerEdge Rack solution.
- Unpack, uncrate and set up a Dell PowerEdge Rack.
- Identify the components of the Dell PowerEdge Rack kits.
- Successfully mount and cable applicable Dell PowerEdge and
PowerVault rack-mountable products.
Module 3 -
Removal and Replacement Procedures for Dell PowerEdge
servers
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Use available diagnostic software to identify failed
components.
- Remove and replace all field serviceable components for
Workgroup, Departmental and Enterprise products.
Module 4 -
Operating System Installation and Configuration for Dell PowerEdge
servers
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Configure a RAID Array
- Install and configure an operating system
- Install and configure required drivers
Module 5 -
Diagnostics and Hardware Troubleshooting
Upon successful
completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Apply basic troubleshooting techniques and procedures
- Identify and resolve hardware conflicts
- Identify and replace failed components
- Utilize Hot Plug Technology to replace redundant components
